A larger address space, folded into your framework at your pace
IPv4 gives a network roughly four billion possible addresses, and that pool has been effectively exhausted for years, which is why so much of the modern internet runs behind layers of network address translation instead of a direct address per device. IPv6 removes that constraint: a 128 bit address space large enough that every device on every network you will ever build can carry its own address, with no translation in the way. Gibson IT incorporates IPv6 into your existing addressing framework rather than treating it as a separate project. Some networks run IPv4 and IPv6 side by side in a dual stack, which keeps every legacy system reachable while new services pick up native IPv6 support as they are built. Others move to IPv6 exclusively once every application, firewall rule and monitoring tool on the network has been confirmed to work without IPv4 behind it.
Dual stack or IPv6 only: what actually decides it
Dual stack is the lower risk path for most networks already in production, because nothing that depends on an IPv4 address stops working while the IPv6 side gets proven out. An IPv6 only design removes that overlap entirely, which is cleaner to operate long term, but only once every dependency, from an outdated firmware version to a vendor tool that still expects an IPv4 string, has been checked. We look at that dependency list with you before recommending either path, not after committing to one.
